Sonia is French with deep Sicilian roots — her mother is from Sicily, and she spent every summer there growing up. From an early age, she developed a love for traditional Sicilian desserts, especially granita.
A scientist by training, Sonia holds a Ph.D. in immunology and spent years in research developing new treatments for patients. But alongside her career in science, she nurtured a lifelong passion for cooking and sustainability.
Filippo, Sonia’s husband, was born and raised on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. For him, granita with fresh brioche isn’t just a treat — it’s a cherished summer tradition, often enjoyed for breakfast during the warmest months. His love for this authentic Sicilian experience is one of the inspirations behind ETNA DULCIS.
ETNA DULCIS was born from a shared passion — a way for Sonia and Filippo to bring the authentic flavors of Sicily to the San Diego beach community. Rooted in family tradition and inspired by summer mornings on Mount Etna, their mission is simple: to share a taste of their heritage through high-quality, homemade, and environmentally conscious granita. One spoonful at a time.
